StrengthsQuest Do-over

Senior year of high school, so almost 5 freaking years ago, I did StrengthsQuest for a senior leadership class. I was obsessed with it and even made myself a bracelet based on my talent themes (and I’m still that weird).

If you don’t know what StrengthsQuest is —

What is StrengthsQuest?

Your StrengthsQuest journey begins with a 30-minute online assessment, the Clifton StrengthsFinder. This assessment has helped more than 9 million people around the world discover their talents.

After you take the Clifton StrengthsFinder, you’ll receive a customized report that lists your top five talent themes, along with action items for development and suggestions about how you can use your talents to achieve academic, career, and personal success (strengthsquest.com).

So it’s really cool. You can learn a lot about yourself and the way you interact and work with others and in your relationships. I recently decided to re-take the assessment and see if anything has changed in the last few years.

5 years ago, my themes were:

Adaptability

Positivity

Futuristic

Responsibility

Maximizer (aka perfectionist)

These were all scarily accurate at the time and still are to a point.

My new themes are:

Futuristic

Achiever

Empathy

Consistency

Positivity

This makes a lot of sense to me. New job, check. Next goals are move out and get a dog (I need a puppy). I have some shorter term fitness goals as well and an on-going goal of writing most days. I’ve always sort of had this mindset, but I got really into it after interning for a performance coach and taking a motivational psychology class. The futuristic part can be a problem sometimes. I’m always trying to figure out “what’s going to happen.”

I always wondered why I didn’t get Empathy the first time. So many feels. When I see someone crying, I will start crying even if I don’t know what’s wrong with them and I’m not exaggerating. Sometimes I think I should have majored instead of minored in Psychology and gone on to be a therapist because I love listening to people and discussing their lives.

Consistency is my love of routines and eating the same thing for breakfast everyday. I like to be in an environment where I know the rules and what is expected. It also goes as far as my passion for equality and treating every person with the same respect. Interesting.

And where would we be without Positivity? For realz, it’s gonna be okay. I’ve always relied on my strong belief that everything happens for a reason. Proverbs 3: 5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all things acknowledge him , and he will make your paths straight.”

I would highly encourage taking the assessment if you haven’t already. A lot of employers and schools have their people take it. It’s $9.99, but so worth it to have that little extra insight into your brain. Know yourself, you are great.
